Palm oil extracts protected against cadmium chloride poisoning via inhibition of oxidative stress in rats

Abstract Background The probable mechanism of an earlier reported capacity palm oil extracts to confer protection against high dose cadmium poisoning in rats was this study. Similar experimental design by us retained. Rats therefore were sacrificed at intervals twelve; twenty four and forty eight hours post CdCl 2 insult. Results Oxidative stress antioxidant status (malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, catalase glutathione) assessed tissues (liver, kidney, heart, brain, muscle) serum. indicators showed a significantly ( p < 0.05) increased lipid peroxidation alterations defence systems occasioned drop dismutase enzymes (serum, liver, brain kidneys) the rats. Also observed significant reduction non-enzymatic reduced glutathione over time. Pre-administration with crude its modulated mediated depletion capacities acutely exposed rising profile. Conclusions Regulation response underlying which conferred insult thus suggesting potential as viable therapeutic target deleterious effects. Graphical
